On March 21, 2024, we hosted an inspiring youth participation event centered on some of the most pressing topics for young people today: digital mental health, critical thinking, and the opportunities offered by Erasmus+. The event brought together young minds eager to engage in meaningful conversations and gain practical tools to navigate the challenges of the digital age.
The Importance of Digital Mental Health
In an era dominated by screens and constant connectivity, mental health is more intertwined with technology than ever before. Our discussions explored the dual nature of this relationship—the benefits of digital tools for accessing support and information, as well as the challenges of screen fatigue and online pressures.
Participants were encouraged to reflect on their own digital habits and consider strategies to maintain a healthier balance. From managing notifications to carving out offline time for self-care, the emphasis was on practical ways to enhance well-being in an increasingly digital world.
Critical Thinking as a Lifelong Skill
Another focal point of the event was the role of critical thinking in navigating the digital landscape. In a world overflowing with information, the ability to evaluate sources, question narratives, and think independently is crucial.
Through interactive discussions, participants unpacked the importance of approaching online content with a critical eye—whether it’s identifying credible mental health resources or analyzing media messages. The takeaway was clear: critical thinking isn’t just a skill for the classroom; it’s a tool for life.
Unlocking Opportunities with Erasmus+
The event also shone a spotlight on Erasmus+ as a platform for personal and professional growth. By sharing stories and opportunities within Erasmus+ programs, we aimed to inspire participants to take the next step—whether it’s joining a youth exchange, participating in a training course, or exploring international volunteering.
The discussion highlighted how these experiences can foster not only cultural exchange but also resilience, adaptability, and a broader perspective on the world.
A Collaborative Space for Growth
More than just a series of sessions, the event created a collaborative space where participants could share ideas, reflect on their experiences, and build connections. It emphasized that the challenges of the digital age—whether in mental health or media literacy—are best addressed collectively, with shared insights and support.
By the end of the day, attendees left with new tools, fresh perspectives, and a sense of empowerment to tackle the digital challenges in their lives while also exploring exciting opportunities for growth and learning.
This event was a reminder of the power of youth engagement and the potential for creating positive change when young people come together to learn, share, and inspire each other.
